The unlinked account ID will be deleted from the Skype Account Profile page. If you set up a new Skype account with your Microsoft credentials and decide to unlink it, you’ll lose all of the Skype items you bought for that account.

Since October 2016, Microsoft accounts, as well as other Microsoft services such as OneDrive, have been linked to Skype accounts. It is no longer possible to delete your Skype account without also canceling your Microsoft Account as a result of this change.

It is not possible to combine or separate your Skype account with a Microsoft account. You’ll have access to sign in to all of your Microsoft services, including SkyDrive, Office Online, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive, Xbox, and more with your account.

Deactivating the account is another option. If you deactivate your Microsoft Account, your acquired data such as purchase and chat history will be permanently deleted from the system. After the account is closed, it may take up to 30 days for your name to disappear from the Skype directory.

You can use Skype without an account for the first time. Microsoft is making it easier to use Skype without a full account. On the internet, you may set up a group chat with up to 300 participants and up to 25 people on a voice or video call, while using Skype sans an account.
