How to tip through the Lyft app
To tip using the app, there is an option below the driver’s profile to choose any amount you want. This feature, of having options on the amount to tip, was newly introduced in the Lyft app. When you tip through the app, the driver receives an alert that he has received something. Lyft does not reveal the passenger that offered the tip (who or when it happened). Lyft keeps that confidential. No charge is made on a tip. Lyft does not have any stake in that. It is the driver’s reward. It should be known that when a passenger tips, the cost is charged to the passenger’s credit card. Tips are entirely optional.
How to tip with cash?
Sometimes, passengers who intend to tip their driver, do not want the cost of the tip to be charged on their credit card. They resort to paying by cash. Tips by cash can be done at any time as long as the driver is present physically. Some passengers prefer to tip during the ride; some prefer to tip after the ride or even before the ride. The passenger gets to choose when to tip since it’s entirely optional.
Because the Lyft app will not reveal to the driver who tipped, some passengers usually tip by cash where their identity will be revealed since they want the driver to give them a five-star rating. Drivers will always accept a passenger with a high rating because they consider them “less of a bother.”
Lyft, as a transportation service, does not accept cash transactions (minus the tip). Lyft does not only give a car ride. They also give bike rides. You can also get a driver on the app for someone else. Why do you tip Lyft drivers?
As much as we pay Lyft drivers for the ride, we ought to sometimes appreciate them by giving them a tip. Giving them tips is a sign of appreciation and a source of motivation. A tip can make a driver’s day! Lyft drivers are not paid for the fuel they consume while going to pick you up. It is at their expense. Give them something to appreciate. You can decide to give the driver a five-star rating or compliment him. But, that does not pay his bills. He requires more than that.
When should you tip a Lyft driver?
You are required to tip a driver when some of these conditions are met. You can also decide to tip even without the driver meeting these listed conditions.
If the driver drives carefully on the road, Most drivers drive hurriedly in to make a few more rides before going back home. When a driver sacrifices his time just to ensure your safe ride, try to appreciate it afterward. When a driver helps you with your luggage, Some drivers would not even care. That gesture alone is enough. When a driver asks questions like “are you okay?” when the car goes down a rough road. It shows concern. Such drivers are rare. They should be recognized.
There is no rule against tipping drivers. Tipping is a voluntary but necessary activity. It is a source of motivation and joy for drivers. Tipping is a form of customer service.
Must tips be monetary? Can’t it be something else?
Tips must not be monetary. You can complement the driver on how clean his car is, how clean he is, or how carefully he drives. All of these are suggestions. But, as I said earlier, that will not pay his bills. Let’s be more compassionate and kind enough to give him something of monetary value.
